Getting Started Q&A #2

If you missed "Getting Started Q&A" read it first, and then come back for #2.

Do you have a budget and/or goal?
YES! If you signed up for our newsletter (use Subscribe button) you received a link to our budget. If not, you may request one through email.  * Tyrone [@)] BartonsOnBoard [dot] com *
If your family starts Mercy Ships in June, why do you need to raise support now?
There are several reasons BUT first, let me explain our process. All the gifts that you
send in go to an account set up for us by Mercy Ships. Mercy Ships needs to see that we are reaching our goals and that your support is in place before we can go. And that takes time.
While we are still working and raising financial partners we don't use that money. Money that accumulates before we start in June helps with start-up expenses.  Passports, immunizations, training fees, and travel are start-up expenses. These are not all, but it gives you an idea.
Your budget shows an expected cost breakdown per month for two years. Why two years?
Two years is the smallest commitment of time for our position. It keeps the goal obtainable and simple to explain. After the 2 years is complete I will readjust the budget. We plan to continue past our commitment as long as we have the funding!
Where are YOU at in the process?
At this point there is no going back. It is now January. Our house will list (for sale) this month and we already have buyers interested! Besides work and daily life we are trying to clean the house, do laundry, and raise our two young boys. Sleep deprived, living on coffee, and still happy! After the boys go to bed (either at night or during nap) we are:
  • Letter stuffing to ask for financial partners
  • Scheduling times to share with small groups
  • Steam cleaning carpet
  • Scrubbing baseboards, trim, moldings, walls...
  • Clean, organize, throw away, give to friends, drop at Thrift Store, sell at yard sale, REPEAT! (we have found using the largest online yard sale through Facebook is amazing!)
  • Asking doctors what immunizations can come through their office. What will insurance pay for...
  • Filling out paperwork for passport renewals for us, first passports for the boys
  • Writing updates to you, our partners in this!
Wow! You know how fast time goes by when your busy. May will soon be upon us!
